What Is Cold Drawing?
Cold drawing is a metalworking process in which a steel tube is pulled through a die at room temperature to reduce its outer diameter and/or wall thickness. This process: - Increases tensile strength through work hardening - Improves dimensional accuracy to tight tolerances - Produces a smooth internal and external surface - Aligns the grain structure for better fatigue resistance The Cold Drawing Process — Step by Step: 1. Starting material selection — Hot-rolled or seamless mother tube inspected for defects 2. Annealing — Softens the material to improve drawability 3. Pickling & phosphating — Removes scale; lubricant coating applied 4. Drawing — Tube is pulled through a hardened die 5. Straightening — Ensures straightness tolerance ≤ 1 mm / 1,000 mm 6. Cutting to length — Precision saw cutting or facing 7. Final inspection — OD/ID/wall thickness measurement, hydrostatic or eddy-current test

Precision inner diameter (after honing: Ra ≤ 0.4 µm) ensures proper piston seal function. Pneumatic Cylinders: Honed cold drawn tubes with Ra ≤ 0.2 µm provide the friction-free surface needed for pneumatic seals. Automotive Shock Absorbers: Thin-wall cold drawn tubes with tight OD tolerances for reliable damping performance. Mechanical Shafts & Structural Components: Used as guide shafts, actuator components, and structural members requiring dimensional precision.

Q: What is the difference between seamless and cold drawn tubes?
A: All our cold drawn tubes start from seamless mother tubes. "Cold drawn" refers to the finishing process — so they are both seamless AND cold drawn.
Q: Do you supply honed cylinder tubes?
A: Yes. We supply as-drawn tubes and honed bore tubes (Ra ≤ 0.4 µm or Ra ≤ 0.2 µm as required).
Q: Can you supply custom wall thickness and OD combinations?
A: Yes. Lead time approximately 4–6 weeks for custom tooling setups. Please send your drawing for feasibility review.
Q: What certifications do you hold?
A: EN 10305-1, EN 10305-3, ASTM A519, GB/T 8713. ISO 9001:2015 certified with EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certificates. Q: What is your standard packing for export? A: Bundled in moisture-proof paper, packed in wooden crates. For tubes >6 m, sea freight in full containers is recommended.
